talkbackTHAMES – Pilot

Brief: talkbackTHAMES is the UK production arm of FremantleMedia and is one of the largest production companies in the UK. talkbackTHAMES produces over 450 hours of programming a year across a wide range of genres and for broadcast on all major terrestrial and digital channels. In 2011 we were briefed to develop a brand device, title sequence and all associated graphical elements for the pilot of a new Saturday night National Lottery quiz show for talkbackTHAMES called Break The Safe.

Creative: The format of the show is based around time and money with contestants answering rounds of questions to build a quantity of cash which the final couple attempt to win by breaking the safe. We steered away from the obvious digital clock and turn dial safe routes and developed a brand and title sequence which portrays the safe and the breaking of the safe in a more modern and contemporary way. As the safe device pulses, the font melts onto the screen resulting in the safe breaking in an explosion of light and colour through to the studio.

Result: The short title sequence is exciting and visually engaging and creates an energetic start to the show. In addition to developing the brand and titles, we used key elements of the title sequence to create the stings in and out of the show and animations for all screens in the modern screen based set environment, which included the front of the large safe and the large digital countdown running the full floor length screen. The outcome has been the creation of a powerful synergy between the titles and set which has resulted in a very impressive and slick looking pilot.
