BBC ALBA Magners League Outdoor Media

Brief: BBC ALBA is the Gaelic television channel launched in 2008 initially on the Sky and Freesat channels, then in the summer of 2011, on Freeview and Virgin Media. BBC ALBA’s channel output extends across a number of genres with sport in particular attracting a significant number of viewers. BBC ALBA’s sport output features football, shinty and rugby and in 2010, the channel announced that it would broadcast live coverage of the Magners League, one of the major events of the European rugby calendar. We were briefed to create an outdoor advertising campaign for showcasing on selected sites in Glasgow and Edinburgh, to promote both its association and its live coverage.

Creative: We created two outdoor designs with one featuring a player from Glasgow Warriors and the other a player from Edinburgh. In addition to featuring a call to action in Gaelic and English and images of players within television screen settings, the posters also carried an iconic image of Glasgow and Edinburgh and channel information details.

Result: The 96 and 48 sheet presentations had strong standout in both day and night conditions and they communicated clearly, BBC ALBA’s association and commitment to the Magners League coverage.
