BBC ALBA – Rugby Adverts

Brief: BBC ALBA is the Gaelic television channel launched in 2008 initially on the Sky and Freesat channels, then in the summer of 2011, on Freeview and Virgin Media. BBC ALBA’s channel output extends across a number of genres with sport in particular attracting a significant number of viewers. BBC ALBA’s sport output features football, shinty and rugby and the channel broadcasts live coverage of the RaboDirect PRO12 competition, one of the major events of the European rugby calendar. In support of BBC ALBA’s coverage, we were briefed to develop bilingual advertisements to communicate the dates and times of the games being broadcast together with player images and the BBC ALBA star graphic.

Creative: Two advertisements have been created. One features three games with Edinburgh and Glasgow participation and the other is specific to one game, Ulster v Glasgow Warriors. The dark background provides a platform for player images, text, the star graphic and channel information and of course, the BBC ALBA brand device.

Result: The advertisements have strong standout and have appeared in the Scottish Club Rugby Union Magazine, THE SCRUM.

Thought of the day…

The Death of Direct Mail?

Well thought out and executed Direct Mail is a beautiful thing. Lets hope the planned rise in the cost of stamps from Royal Mail doesn’t put an end this method of communication.
